Thousands of pro-life supporters marched through central London on September 5 for the annual March for Life UK, gathering in a public witness to the dignity of human life from conception to natural death.

Participants travelled from the Emmanuel Centre in Westminster toward Parliament Square, singing Christian hymns and carrying banners as the annual demonstration returned to the heart of the British capital. This year’s programme also included a Pro-Life Family Summit and Youth Summit, featuring talks and testimonies on family life, motherhood, fatherhood, abortion and Christian witness.
Fifteen Catholic bishops joined the gathering after participating in a morning Mass at Westminster Cathedral.Southwark Archbishop John Wilson said participants were united “to say that human life matters, that every life matters, from conception to natural death.”Other Catholic clergy also spoke about the need to defend human dignity at every stage of life and to offer a peaceful public witness rooted in Christian faith.
The morning Mass at Westminster Cathedral was also briefly disrupted by protesters. Video shared from inside the cathedral showed individuals being escorted out by security personnel while the liturgy continued. The march took place amid continuing debate over abortion law in Britain, where abortion is generally permitted up to 24 weeks under specified legal conditions. National safe-access-zone legislation also restricts certain activities around abortion facilities.Hundreds of pro-choice campaigners gathered separately near Parliament Square, arguing that abortion access should remain protected.Despite strong disagreement between the two groups, the day remained largely peaceful.
March for Life UK began in Birmingham in 2013 before moving to London in 2018. Organizers say the annual initiative seeks to encourage public discussion, support families and advocate legal protection for unborn children. For Catholics and other Christians taking part, the event was also a public declaration of a central conviction: every human life possesses an inherent dignity that does not depend on age, ability, health or circumstance.
