Pope Leo XIV is set to begin a deeply significant 10-day apostolic journey to Africa from April 13 to April 23, marking his first visit to the continent since his election in 2025. This pastoral mission will take the Holy Father to Algeria, Cameroon, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea, reflecting the growing vitality and importance of the Church in Africa.

Throughout the journey, the pope will travel thousands of miles to celebrate Holy Mass, meet clergy and religious, and encourage the faithful. A historic moment will occur in Algeria, which will welcome a pope for the first time despite its small Catholic presence, symbolizing the Church’s universal mission.

The visit also highlights Pope Leo XIV’s devotion to St. Augustine, with planned stops at sites connected to the great Church Father. Emphasizing peace, unity, and interfaith dialogue, the Holy Father will address both spiritual and social challenges facing the region.

In Angola, a major public prayer gathering is expected to draw large crowds of faithful. The journey will conclude in Equatorial Guinea, reaffirming the pope’s commitment to strengthening the Church and uplifting Catholic communities across Africa.
