Pastor Jim Domen, founder and president of Church United, says there was a time when he believed his same-sex attraction had become part of who he was. Raised in a Christian home, he remembers struggling with these feelings from seventh grade and carrying them largely alone. At 23, he eventually entered what he describes as the gay lifestyle. But after several years, the life he believed would bring fulfillment left him feeling increasingly lost and lonely. His breaking point came when his partner left him, taking their money and leaving him with almost nothing.

FROM SAME-SEX ATTRACTION TO A LIFE SURRENDERED TO JESUS
Then came June 8, 2002. Domen says that after losing his possessions, he lay broken on the floor and distinctly heard God calling him to return. His response was simple: “God, I’m yours again.” He says that surrender became the beginning of a completely new direction.
Domen returned to church, immersed himself in Scripture and says his relationship with Jesus transformed the way he understood his identity. He later earned a Master of Divinity from Azusa Pacific University, became a pastor, married Amanda and now has three children.
Today, Domen shares his testimony, encourages parents to combine conviction with unconditional love, and leads Church United, which equips pastors to engage their communities with the Christian faith. For Domen, the message is ultimately about one thing: Jesus can meet a person at their lowest point and call them into a new life of faith, purpose and service.
