February 20, 2026 — The Sergio Gor, U.S. Ambassador to India, said on Friday that a meeting between Narendra Modi and Donald Trump will take place “at the right time.”

“Stay tuned, I’m sure it’ll happen at the right moment,” Gor told ANI on the sidelines of the India AI Impact Summit 2026, where India formally joined Pax Silica, a U.S.-led initiative focused on artificial intelligence and supply chain security.

Background

The last official meeting between Modi and Trump was during a working visit to Washington, D.C., on February 13, 2025. Throughout 2025, the two leaders maintained regular communication, particularly regarding trade negotiations. Earlier this year, Trump announced a new bilateral trade agreement that lowered American tariffs on Indian goods and expanded energy and technology cooperation.

The summit, held from February 16–20 in Delhi, is the first global AI summit hosted in the Global South. It brought together policymakers, industry experts, academics, and civil society representatives to advance discussions on artificial intelligence and its role in global development.

During the event, PM Modi emphasized the importance of democratizing AI and presented India’s MANAV Vision for AI, aimed at advancing humanity’s welfare through a transparent approach to data sharing.

Next Steps

With both leaders actively engaged on trade, technology, and global peace initiatives, observers expect the Modi–Trump meeting to focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation in AI, trade, and regional security. Ambassador Gor described the summit as “very impactful” and highlighted the “limitless potential” of India–U.S. relations going forward.
