An Iranian Christian who survived a brutal shooting during protests against the country’s ruling regime continues to hold firmly to his faith in Jesus Christ, even after undergoing four surgeries for severe injuries.
The believer, identified as Abtin, was shot by Iranian security forces during nationwide demonstrations sparked by anger over rising fuel prices, corruption, and long-standing oppression. According to his testimony, the protests were not only about economic hardship but also about the desire for freedom, dignity, and justice.
During the protests, a shotgun blast tore into Abtin’s arm. The injury required four surgeries, leaving permanent scars that serve as a reminder of the violence he endured. Despite the attack on his life, Abtin says his struggle was part of a larger fight for freedom and a better future for the Iranian people.
After escaping the country, he found refuge near the Armenia–Iran border, where a church community welcomed him and other displaced believers. Abtin said the church became a place of healing and spiritual strength during a difficult time in his life.
Christians in Iran continue to face severe restrictions, persecution, and pressure for their faith, forcing many believers to worship secretly in house churches or flee the country.
Despite these hardships, Abtin and many other Iranian Christians say their mission remains clear—to bring hope, faith, and the message of the Gospel to their people. They continue to pray for a future in which the people of Iran can live in freedom and openly follow Christ.
