President Donald Trump has firmly ruled out any ceasefire with Iran. Speaking before boarding Marine One on Friday, he dismissed calls for a diplomatic pause. Trump argued that a truce makes no sense when one side holds overwhelming military advantage.
Trump said Iran’s military is effectively finished. He pointed to the destruction of its missile capability, its defense industrial base, and its leadership at every level.
On the Strait of Hormuz, Trump was equally confident. The waterway carries roughly a fifth of the world’s oil and gas. Trump said the blockade would eventually collapse on its own and called reopening it a straightforward task.
He urged Europe, Japan, South Korea, and China to take responsibility for securing the strait. Trump noted that the United States does not rely on it for its own energy needs. He also criticized NATO allies for lacking the courage to send ships and support.
Bahrain and Romania have since announced they will contribute to security efforts in the strait. Global oil prices have surged past one hundred and five dollars a barrel.
