A devastating airstrike on a hospital in Kabul has left at least 400 people dead and around 250 others injured, according to Afghan authorities. The Taliban has condemned the attack, calling it a blatant offense against civilians and a serious violation of international law. The strike reportedly targeted a large drug rehabilitation center on March 16, destroying major sections of the building and trapping patients and staff under rubble.
Taliban officials said most of the victims were civilians receiving treatment, making this one of the deadliest single attacks in Afghanistan in recent years. Witnesses described scenes of chaos, with fires engulfing parts of the hospital and rescuers struggling to pull survivors from the debris.
Pakistan has denied targeting a hospital, insisting its military operations were aimed at militant hideouts, not civilians. Islamabad stated the strikes were precise and rejected the Taliban’s accusations as false.
The attack has sharply escalated tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Both nations continue to accuse each other of harboring militant groups responsible for cross-border attacks. International organizations, including the United Nations, have called for an independent investigation into the incident, warning that the strike could worsen the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and destabilize the already volatile region.
