In a powerful catechesis at his general audience in St. Peter’s Square on March 18, 2026, Pope Leo XIV called the faithful to rediscover their mission, affirming that every baptized Christian is called to actively proclaim the Gospel.
Reflecting on the teachings of Lumen gentium, a key document of the Second Vatican Council, the Pope emphasized that the Church is a communion of all believers, united in faith and guided by the Holy Spirit. He explained that this unity allows the Church to faithfully safeguard the truth revealed by God.

From this shared communion, the Holy Father stressed that “each baptized person is an active agent of evangelization,” called to bear witness to Christ through daily life. He reminded the faithful that through Baptism and Confirmation, all Christians participate in Christ’s mission as priest, prophet, and king, and are therefore obliged to spread and defend the faith both in word and deed.
Highlighting the “sense of faith” present in the People of God, the Pope noted that the Holy Spirit distributes gifts and charisms among all believers, strengthening the Church and guiding her mission. In this living communion, the Church continues to grow, renewed by grace and united in proclaiming the love of Christ to the world.
