Heavy fighting along the Sudan–Chad border has killed at least 17 people and wounded over 120, aid group Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) reports. The clashes erupted in the strategic town of Tina, near the border, between Sudan’s national army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
MSF said 66 of the injured are in serious condition, with many civilians treated in makeshift facilities in nearby Tine, Chad, where water, electricity, and medicines are scarce.
Sudan’s army claims it repelled RSF attacks on Tina, forcing fighters to withdraw. The border region, part of Darfur, remains one of the last zones held by government forces in the ongoing conflict that began in April 2023.
Chad has closed its border “until further notice” to prevent violence from spilling over, although some humanitarian crossings had been operating.
The fighting underscores the worsening humanitarian crisis, with tens of thousands killed and many more displaced since the conflict began.
