US Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, is spushing an effort in the Senate to hold the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) accountable for its ongoing persecution of Christians.
In astatement to Fox News Digital, Cruz said that the Chinese Communist Party is once again carrying out a sweeping crackdown on Christians, this time targeting Pastor Jin and the Zion Church. The CCP fears anything it cannot fully control — especially faith. The United States has powerful tools to help protect people suffering from persecution and violence, and we should use them until China releases the members of the Zion Church.
The proposed resolution condemns the CCP’s actions against Christians and reaffirms the United States’ commitment to promoting religious freedom and tolerance around the world. It further calls on the Chinese government to uphold the right to religious liberty and to end all violence and discrimination against religious minorities.
Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, stated that the Chinese Communist Party’s repression of Christians including its targeting of churches like the Zion Church represents a blatant violation of basic religious freedom rights. She expressed pride in being an original co-sponsor of the resolution, emphasizing that it sends a strong message: faith is not a crime, and the United States firmly condemns the recent arrests of church leaders carried out by CCP authorities.
Earlier this month, Chinese authorities detained several Christian leaders, including Pastor Jin Mingri, the leader of one of China’s largest underground evangelical churches and 30 Zion Church pastors and workers were detained or went missing across China.
Grace Jin, his daughter, expressed her family’s gratitude to Sen. Cruz for his efforts, telling Fox News Digital that they deeply appreciate his support.
