The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has released a video purportedly showing seven captured members of Pakistan’s security forces pleading for assistance, as tensions escalate between the separatist group and the Pakistani state.

The footage emerged days after the BLA claimed it was holding seven personnel from regular units of the Pakistan Army and issued a seven-day ultimatum demanding a prisoner exchange. The group warned that failure to meet its conditions could result in the execution of the detainees.

What the Video Shows

In the video circulated by the group’s media wing, several men in uniform identify themselves by name, unit, and service number. Some question why the military has allegedly not acknowledged them as serving personnel.

One man, identifying himself as Deedar Ullah from Peshawar, claims he served in the 15 Frontier Force Regiment and was stationed in Khuzdar before being taken captive. The individuals appeal to their superiors for intervention, expressing distress over what they describe as official denial of their detention.

The authenticity of the video and the claims made within it have not been independently verified. Pakistani authorities have not publicly confirmed the identities of the individuals shown.

Seven-Day Ultimatum

Earlier this week, the BLA said it had detained 17 security personnel during what it described as the second phase of “Operation Herof.” According to the group, 10 of those detained were later released after being identified as ethnic Baloch linked to local police units.

The remaining seven are reportedly being held pending negotiations. The group claims the detainees were tried before what it termed a “Baloch National Court” and accused of involvement in enforced disappearances and actions against civilians. These allegations also remain unverified.

Rising Insurgency in Balochistan

Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest but least populated province, has long experienced insurgency driven by separatist groups who accuse the federal government of political marginalisation and economic exploitation. Islamabad has repeatedly rejected those allegations and classifies the BLA as a terrorist organisation.

The release of the video appears aimed at increasing pressure on the government of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the military leadership under Army Chief Asim Munir.

Security analysts note that public messaging campaigns have become an increasingly visible element of insurgent tactics in the region, particularly as social media platforms amplify such material.

Government Response Awaited

As of Friday, there has been no detailed official statement confirming the status of the reportedly captured personnel or addressing the BLA’s ultimatum.

With the deadline approaching, attention remains focused on whether negotiations will take place or whether the situation could further escalate in a province already marked by decades of conflict.
