In a powerful sign of tolerance and peaceful coexistence between different religions and cultures, Bahrain’s King Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has conveyed his Kingdom’s support and concern for the well-being of the Christian community in the country. Meeting with the Apostolic Vicar of Northern Arabia, Bishop Aldo Berardi, and other Christian leaders in Bahrain, Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, conveyed the greetings of the King and enquired about the situation of the Catholic community. News outlet Fides reported that the meeting took place at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Arabia in Awali on Sunday, March 8.

The Crown Prince, who is the Commander in Chief of the Bahrain Defense Force, also reaffirmed his commitment to protecting all citizens and residents in light of Iran’s ongoing aggression. The Prime Minister, the Interior Minister, and the Minister of Finance and National Economy were also present at the meeting.

The Apostolic Vicar informed Fides that the Crown Prince has requested that churches remain open to provide spiritual support to the faithful. Christian religious leaders expressed great appreciation for the King’s continued support and the safe environment to freely practice their faith.

On March 9, Iran again targeted the Al Ma’ameer oil facility in Bahrain, causing fire and damage. A Bahraini woman was also reported killed and 8 others injured during an attack on a residential area in Manama.
