A remarkable sign of spiritual renewal is unfolding in Singapore, as the Catholic Church prepares to welcome its largest group of new faithful in a decade this Easter. More than 1,200 catechumens and candidates are set to enter the Church, reflecting a growing hunger for Christ in the region.
The journey reached a key milestone during the Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion, held across several parishes in February and early March 2026. Around 978 catechumens and 155 candidates participated in English-language celebrations on February 21–22, while 111 catechumens and six candidates took part in the Mandarin rite on March 1.
This sacred rite, traditionally celebrated on the First Sunday of Lent, marks the final stage of preparation before receiving the sacraments at the Easter Vigil. During the liturgy, catechumens inscribe their names in the “Book of the Elect,” publicly expressing their commitment to follow Christ.
Encouraging the faithful, Fr. Terence Kesavan reminded participants that vocation begins with God’s initiative, declaring, “God is choosing you.” Meanwhile, Cardinal William Goh urged them to deepen their faith through daily reflection on Scripture, calling Lent a time of humility, conversion, and renewal.
In a world often searching for meaning, this moment stands as a powerful testimony: Christ continues to call hearts, and many are responding with faith, hope, and new life in Him.
