In a video published by EWTN Media on Instagram, several Catholic influencers are urging a global day of fasting in response to the rising violence across the world.

More than 30 popular Catholic influencers including Matt Fradd and Lila Rose, the campaign invites Christians worldwide to join in a fast on October 22 taking in account of the tragic bloodshed this year.

Catholic influencer Franco Aurelio had described 2025 as a deeply abnormal year marked by spiritual unrest in a social media post on September 10, the day of Charlie Kirk’s assassination .

Ryan Penney, Digital Content Manager for EWTN Studios was moved by the initiative and thought the moment of cultural decay should call Christians to do more. Penney reached out to Aurelio and several other Catholic content creators to coordinate a unified message.

Penney explained that the goal was to mobilize large following of these influencers to reach as many souls as possible, beacuse the more Christians band together, the more powerful their prayer and fasting become.

The global fast will take place on October 22, the feast day of Pope John Paul II, honouring the saint’s legacy of dending life and urging spiritual renewal.

Pope John Paul II, known for highlighting the spiritual significance of fasting and redemptive suffering in his writings, served as a key inspiration for the call to fast. In his 1995 encyclical Evangelium Vitae, he described fasting as a vital tool in confronting the culture of death.

The organizers emphasized that the collective effort was not meant as a political statement, but as a spiritual response grounded in the belief that prayer and fasting have the power to heal both hearts and nations.
