OBSCENE SACRILEGE …RISE TO CONSOLE OUR MOTHER | PORTO-VECCHIO

📅 October 3, 2026 👤 SG News 💬 0 Comments

Apologies, dear Mother. Together with Christ, your Son, we repeat: “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34).

Yet even as we whisper that plea for mercy, the video of what took place in Porto-Vecchio cannot be watched without tears in our eyes. To watch one man mimic sexual acts upon a statue of the Virgin Mary before toppling and destroying it, while another seemingly stood by recording the vile display for social media, breaks the heart—because for her children, watching our Mother insulted and humiliated is simply unbearable.

Two suspects have been arrested following the outrage, but this is far deeper than a crime report. This is not harmless mischief or drunken foolishness; it is a brazen, grotesque act of sacrilege. It reflects a chilling moral rot where nothing is treated as holy, vulgarity is celebrated, and perpetrators act with arrogant audacity believing their malice carries no cost.

The grotesque perversions committed by that man, shouting and gloating as though he had achieved a triumph, bring vividly to mind the solemn warning of Scripture:

“They are darkened in their understanding and alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardness of their hearts.”— Ephesians 4:18
Human arrogance may think it operates with total impunity, but God’s Word leaves no room for illusion:

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.”— Galatians 6:7
The timing makes the outrage sting even deeper: this desecration took place right at the start of October—the Marian Month of the Most Holy Rosary. But the Church refuses to be silenced by darkness. Already, the faithful have gathered right at the site of the destroyed statue, kneeling where she was torn down to lift their voices in peaceful, powerful prayer.

Where contempt sought to mock her, let devotion rise to console her. Where they sought to tear down her image, let her children answer with the weapon she placed into our hands. Let every broken stone be answered with thousands of Hail Marys. Let us take up our beads in our homes, our churches, and our streets, and repair this spiritual wound with the power of the Holy Rosary. Where sin abounds, grace must abound all the more.
