A devastating house-to-house attack on the Bin-Per community in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria, has left at least 24 people dead, including women and children. The assault reportedly lasted for more than three hours, from midnight on August 17 into the early hours of August 18. Along with the tragic loss of life, 38 homes were destroyed, while farmlands and food reserves were wiped out, leaving survivors displaced and traumatised. Among the heartbreaking stories is that of a two-year-old girl—the sole survivor of an eight-member family killed in their compound. She is currently hospitalized with gunshot wounds. Authorities have deployed 300 special troops under Operation Hard Nut, while local leaders and international advocates are calling for greater protection for vulnerable farming communities. The United States has condemned the killings and urged Nigeria to ensure lasting security and swift accountability.
