In the latest attack by Islamic State militants in the Democratic Republic of Congo, 72 Christians have been brutally killed. According to Barnabas Aid, since mid July, over 200 Christians have been massacred in Ituri Province of the country, which is also the epicenter of the Ebola outbreak that is ravaging the nation.
On August 28, militants belonging to the Islamic State Central Africa Province went on a rampage in the villages of Mabakoa and Biam, killing 29 Christians and burning down 40 houses, driving away hundreds of villagers. The following day, another 11 were beheaded in Amani village.

Islamic State militants have been systematically targeting Christians and have so far claimed the lives of 1,370 people in north-eastern DRC since December 2024. Islamic State propaganda uses the term “combatants” to describe Christians and Jews who do not convert to Islam or pay taxes as a sign of their subservience to Islamic rule.
Around 4.4 million people have been internally displaced in north eastern DRC because of the persistent violence carried out by the Islamic State, the M23 rebel movement, and other armed groups.
