On Tuesday, Pope Leo XIV released his April prayer intention, urging Catholics worldwide to pray for priests facing personal and vocational crises. The “Pray with the Pope” initiative of the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network shared the message, drawing attention to the emotional and spiritual burdens many clergy members carry.
According to Vatican News, priests were entrusted to God’s care, particularly those experiencing loneliness, doubt, and exhaustion in their ministry. The initiative highlights the human fragility of clergy while raising awareness among the faithful about the challenges they face in their vocation.
In his message, the Pope emphasised that priests are “humble and cherished disciples,” not isolated figures expected to endure without support. He urged communities to listen without judgment, express gratitude without demanding perfection, and accompany priests with closeness and sincere prayer.
Vatican sources further indicated that the intention reflected a broader pastoral effort to strengthen clergy through solidarity and faith. Fr. Cristóbal Fones, international director of the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network, stated that priests needed reassurance that they were not alone and benefited from genuine friendship and prayerful support. The April message encourages Catholics to actively stand by those who serve the Church.
