Another horrendous episode of the cruel persecution of Christians has unfolded in Nigeria, as at least 10 people have been confirmed dead following an attack on student-populated communities in Jos, Plateau State, on Palm Sunday.
Christian influencer Alex Barbir first reported the incident via an Instagram video, stating, “10 Christians were killed on Palm Sunday.” The attack occurred in the Anguwa Rukuba area, near Jos, a city that has witnessed previous massacres targeting Christians. Survivors described scenes of panic as gunmen opened fire, while witnesses reported sporadic gunfire at Anguwa Rukuba Junction, where several casualties were recorded.
Local accounts indicate that the attackers were members of the Islamic extremist outfit Boko Haram, responsible for numerous acts of violence against Christians in the region. Residents said countless people, including neighbors, have died, and the area has seen repeated attacks, spreading fear throughout the community.
This tragedy comes a year after last year’s Palm Sunday attack in Plateau State, which claimed 54 lives. Palm Sunday, the Sunday before Easter, commemorates Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem and marks the beginning of Holy Week, making this attack especially painful for Christians observing the sacred season.
