Dutch Parliament has approved a motion to ban the Muslim Brotherhood and its affiliated networks in the Netherlands, marking a significant political development on March 17, 2026.
The motion, introduced by Geert Wilders and Maikel Boon of the Party for Freedom, called on the government to prohibit the organisation and its linked groups. It passed with 76 votes, securing a narrow majority after earlier resistance from parties including ChristenUnie and 50PLUS, which later reversed their positions.
Supporters of the motion cited security concerns, pointing to recent extremist attacks across Europe and a French government report alleging long-term influence strategies by the Brotherhood. Backing came from several parties, including People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy, Reformed Political Party, JA21, and Farmer-Citizen Movement.
Critics, however, have raised concerns over civil liberties and the potential impact on community organisations, as the government considers the next steps.
