Two Catholic churches in Co Westmeath, Ireland — St James’s Church in Kilbeggan and St Michael’s Church in Castletown Geoghegan — were deliberately set on fire in the early hours of Friday, according to Gardaí. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and the swift response of local fire crews prevented the flames from causing total destruction.

The attacks have shocked the local Catholic community, who describe the acts as deeply distressing to parish life. Parish leaders expressed gratitude to volunteers and emergency responders for protecting sacred spaces central to worship and community.

Authorities are appealing to anyone with information or CCTV footage to come forward to aid the investigation. The faithful worldwide are invited to pray for the protection of Church property and the safety of clergy and parishioners.
