The Archdioceses of Westminster and Southwark have reported record numbers of adults preparing to enter the Catholic Church at Easter, according to the National Catholic Register. The figures were announced Feb. 21 during the annual rites of election, formally recognising candidates and catechumens seeking full communion.

The Archdiocese of Westminster stated that the 2026 cohort ranks as the fourth-largest intake since record-keeping began in 1993, with a 60% rise from 2025. Meanwhile, Southwark confirmed that 590 adults plan to enter the Church, the highest total since 2011 and the third consecutive year of significant growth. Officials described the rise as a clear sign of renewed spiritual interest in London.

Church leaders reported that half of the candidates are aged 35 and under, with 20% between 18 and 25. They said the surge spans generations, noting that the oldest catechumen is 81 and the oldest candidate 88 — evidence, they added, that the call to faith resonates at every stage of life.

According to the National Catholic Register, church leaders credited parish-level evangelisation efforts and outreach by the Agency for Evangelisation and Catechesis for the increase. Archbishop John Wilson of Southwark reportedly said the Church rejoices in those responding to Christ’s call, describing their step as a joyful movement toward full sacramental communion.
