The Vatican’s renowned Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital has been ranked the best pediatric hospital in Europe and sixth worldwide in Newsweek’s 2026 “World’s Best Hospitals” list. Produced with Statista, the annual ranking assessed hospitals across multiple countries, recognizing Bambino Gesù for high standards in medical care, patient safety, and compassionate service.
More than 2,500 hospitals in 32 countries were evaluated based on clinical performance, patient outcomes, and surveys of healthcare professionals. Bambino Gesù’s leading European position reflects its expertise in pediatric medicine and its commitment to care tailored to children and families.

Hospital president Tiziano Onesti credited the achievement to the teamwork of doctors, nurses, researchers, and support staff who bring healing and hope to young patients. He emphasized that the recognition strengthens the hospital’s mission of person-centered care grounded in scientific excellence and human compassion. The hospital is also a leader in research and education, holding JCI Academic Medical Center accreditation and participating in 20 of Europe’s 24 reference networks for rare diseases — more than any other European pediatric center.
Annually, Bambino Gesù provides nearly 3 million outpatient services, about 100,000 emergency visits, and over 33,000 surgeries. Leadership thanked parents, caregivers, benefactors, and the Holy See, saying the honor reflects a shared commitment to dignity, healing, and hope for children worldwide.
