On Friday, November 28, Pope Leo XIV visited the Nursing Home of the Little Sisters of the Poor in Istanbul as part of his first Apostolic Journey to Turkey. The Little Sisters of the Poor expressed that they felt honored and privileged to welcome the Pope to their home, where they care for the elderly.
The Pope’s visit began in the chapel, beautifully adorned with flags and flowers. Around 200 people were present, including the residents seated at the front and the staff who manage the home’s daily operations. Pope Leo XIV thanked the sisters for their warm welcome and dedicated service, reflecting on the significance of their name and acknowledging that caring for the elderly “requires a lot of patience and prayer.” He concluded his speech with a “double thank-you” for their service in the name of fraternity, prayed with the community, imparted his blessing, and presented a commemorative gift.

Team Shekinah, led by Brother Santosh Karumathra, Chairman and Managing Director of Shekinah News, and Prinson VG, Executive Director, had the extraordinary privilege of meeting Pope Leo XIV in person during his visit. In this historic encounter, the Pope personally blessed the logos of Shekinah News, Shekinah Global News, and Shekinah Bharath, marking a landmark moment for the organization. Team Shekinah expresses profound gratitude for this divine blessing and the unforgettable opportunity to be part of such a sacred encounter.
This special moment not only highlights Team Shekinah’s dedication to spreading faith and truth but also strengthens their mission with renewed zeal.
Following the visit in Istanbul, Pope Leo XIV will travel to Iznik, ancient Nicea, to attend the celebration of the 1,700th anniversary of the landmark early Church council that produced the Nicene Creed—still followed by most of the world’s 2.6 billion Christians today. This journey underscores the Pope’s commitment to connecting the Church’s history with the faithful across the globe.
